WORK STUDY PROGRAM

At The Muse Brooklyn, our hearts beat circus and our work/study students are the heart and soul of our community. They greet clients, arrange kiddie obstacle courses, transform our studio into a theatre for events, process payments, and fly aerial apparatuses throughout the day for our clients and classes. Alongside these duties, our interns also have the fantastic opportunity to build and refine their professional circus skills through a series of intensive tracks and programs in our state-of-the-art studio in Brooklyn.

The Work Exchange Program is a six-month commitment, consisting of two, 4.5 hour shifts each week and one volunteer event each month. In return for working at our studio, our work exchange students receive unlimited open work out training time and class credits for each hour worked on site. This program is flexible enough to meet the needs of students, performers, and anyone else with other commitments, while being structured enough to give hands-on, professional experience in administration, performing arts, and the circus industry overall. By utilizing each of our students skills and interests, our Work Exchange Program is designed to encourage the creative side of each individual while allowing them to explore new heights (literally). We interview for the Work Exchange program twice a year (every six months).

The next round of interviews for the Work Exchange is in March, 2018. If you are interested in applying for our Work Exchange Program, please email museworkstudy@gmail.com.

For those interested in elevating their circus skills to a more professional, career-focused level, The Muse Brooklyn offers our Raising the Bar Professional Intensive Program. This is a three-month commitment that ensures each participant meets their highest potential possible while preparing them for the real world of training, auditioning, and performing. The Intensive requires a tuition of $500 each month for a total of $1500 over the course of the program, and in return, the participant receives unlimited opening work out training time, a specific track based on their goals, pre-enrollment into 6 classes each week, and a mentor to help guide them in their professional journey. This accumulates to an end-of-the-program called the Evolving Artist Student Showcase, where participants can show off the skills they’ve gained and refined over the past few months. The Intensive auditions 3 times a year: November, April, and August. There are a limited number of Barter Exchange options to supplement the tuition fee for the Intensive, where a participant works on site in exchange for participating in the program.

The next round of auditions for the Professional Intensive Program is Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1pm.

Whichever program you choose, The Muse Brooklyn’s goal is always to support you and your creative lifestyle. From our roots in a Brooklyn backyard to our current home in a giant warehouse, we believe that the most vibrant cultural spaces live at an intersection of lifestyles, skill-sets, politics, and abilities. With discounts and by-donation classes for youth and local residents, we provide a space for everyone to explore their maximum creative potential and reach their goals; creatively, professionally, and otherwise.

Maks Turner

"When I first came to the Muse Brooklyn, it was for a job interview. To this day, I don't know what they thought of me during those beginning months, but I know that they gave me a chance. I did everything I could to prove myself: I came in early, I stayed late. I volunteered for everything. I took every single beginner class I could fit into my schedule. I talked to the teachers, the performers, the other interns. I soaked up everything I could. The Muse gave me opportunities to network, to work variety shows, to train and perform and perfect my craft. It gave me access to a world that had been nothing more than a daydream to me my entire life. It was a space that let me exist the way I wanted to. It gave me room to grow as an artist and as a person. It was the first real community I was ever a part of, and it became a home. No matter where I go, I know that The Muse will always be there for me.  And I know that I am who I am today, because of The Muse."
